One bamboo movement,

one trusted mark

The Bambootech Federation of India unites the country’s growers, artisans, enterprises and institutions — setting standards, opening markets, and turning bamboo into income, jobs and a greener economy.

About the Federation

The national platform for India's bamboo sector

An apex, not-for-profit body bringing the whole bamboo movement under one credible, non-political voice.

The Bambootech Federation of India is a Section 8 company that unites NGOs, farmer producer organisations, co-operatives, self-help groups, MSMEs, industries, entrepreneurs, exporters, growers, artisans, weavers, designers, technologists and researchers engaged in any activity related to bamboo.

It is built to act as the recognised industry counterpart, knowledge partner and implementing partner of Government — working alongside the National Bamboo Mission, State Bamboo Missions and allied ministries to convert India's vast bamboo resource into income, jobs, exports, climate benefit and dignified rural livelihoods.

As a not-for-profit, its income is applied solely to its objects and is never distributed to members. Success is measured in sectoral impact, not profit.

What we do

Eight pillars, one value chain

Each pillar tackles a real bottleneck between a bamboo grower and a finished, exportable, certified product.

Policy & advocacy

Representing the sector before Government and regulators; clearing barriers to bamboo movement, taxation and trade.

Standards & BFI Mark

Accredited testing and certification for quality, performance, provenance and sustainability.

Technology & machinery

Evaluating, empanelling and enabling access to machinery across every stage of bamboo work.

R&D & innovation

Research on species, processing, durability, structure and carbon; IP held in trust for the sector.

Skill & capacity

Training and accreditation aligned to NSDC, Sector Skill Councils, NCVET, PMKVY and DDU-GKY.

Markets & branding

Branding, GeM and ONDC onboarding, buyer-seller meets and export facilitation for members.

Finance & schemes

Connecting members to NBM, MSME schemes, the Maharashtra Bamboo Policy, credit and guarantees.

Climate & livelihoods

Carbon aggregation and MRV; livelihoods for tribal communities, women's SHGs and rural artisans.

Value-chain coverage

From plantation to product

Like a bamboo culm, the chain grows in segments — the Federation supports every node.

  • Plantation & propagation

Nurseries, tissue culture, planting material, harvesting and post-harvest handling.

  • Primary processing

Cross-cutting, splitting, slivering, sticks, mats, strips and boards.

  • Treatment & seasoning

  • Engineered bamboo

Strand-woven, laminated lumber, plywood, flooring, mat board and scrimber.

  • Furniture & handicrafts

CNC, lathes and finishing; artisan and craft-cluster products.

  • Energy & biomass

Pyrolysis, charcoal, biochar, briquettes, gasifiers and CBG digesters.

  • Pulp, paper, fabric & fibre

Fibre extraction, pulping, viscose and non-woven fabric.

  • Construction & prefab

Strategic alignment

Riding a national policy wave

The Federation sits at the centre of India's fast-expanding bamboo policy push.

National Bamboo Mission

National Bamboo Mission

  • End-to-end value-chain development — plantation, planting material, processing, products and market linkage.
  • Delivered through State Bamboo Missions to FPOs, SHGs, enterprises and growers.
  • Enabled by the Indian Forest (Amendment) Act, 2017, freeing bamboo on non-forest land.
